Hello!! Come on in and have a seat!!
2018 celebrates 30 years (already?!) of doing what I love and loving what I do. I began my career at a full service salon but after several years there I felt something was missing for my clients.
With lots of energy and excitement in a large salon also came the lack of privacy. I realized that not everyone likes to be on display with a head full of foil or getting shuffled from person to person. But most importantly, my clients wanted to just simply unwind which was hard to do in a large, busy, noisy space. I could not control the time, privacy or services each client desired so I ventured off into the world of entrepreneurship to build a better experience for my clients in a salon suite.
I wanted to create a space that could offer modern and beautiful hair services but in a comfortable, relaxing environment. I am grateful to have enjoyed being an independent stylist for almost 23 years and continue to love the ever changing excitement of hairdressing but within the tranquility of a much calmer, quiet environment.
In addition to the flexibility of hairdressing and being able to raise my family (and recently becoming a "Lola" to my first granddaughter!), one of the best parts of being 'on my own' is that I choose where and what kind of continuing education to take.
I've traveled to Los Angeles several times to attend The Energizing Summit and will head back there in Summer 2019. The Summit is sponsored by the American Board of Certified Hair Colorists, an organization of hair colorists whose mission is to raise the degree of expertise of hair colorists around the country.
In 2011 I traveled to Atlanta for an intensive class on the technique of balayage. I absolutely love the endless possibilities of this free handed highlighting technique. Balayage and Balay-color continue to be two of my most popular services.
I found myself back in Atlanta in 2015 to learn a revolutionary new concept in hair cutting: Head Shape Matters. Head Shape Matters is the most accurate way of cutting hair. It's the marriage of hair artistry with engineering, geometry and the law of physics.
Head Shape Matters is the missing link in hair cutting. Just as in coloring, no two colors are alike. Color formulations and histories are documented to ensure accuracy and consistency. Why was this documenting never done with hair cutting? To document the length of a hair was near impossible to try to replicate a haircut. But now our industry can have that too with the patented Head Shape Matters.
I am certified in Head Shape Matters hair cutting and this is the only way I will get my own haircut now. I am also training to become an educator for Head Shape Matters (heading back to Tampa in February 2018 for a week long certification and additional training) because I believe every stylist at every level should have the opportunity to cut with accuracy and confidence and to create their vision for their clients before they pick up their shears.
Continuing education keeps me excited to get back to the salon and get to work! There is always so much to learn. Once you stop learning, you stop growing and that's when life gets boring!
I believe beautiful hair should also be vibrant, healthy, easy hair and, just as important, low-maintenance hair.
I truly love my "job". Hairdressing has been such an amazing career. Thank you to each and every one of my awesome clients. I believe I have the best clients on earth. They believed in me from the beginning, continue to inspire me with their lives and I am truly blessed to journey with them through life. Without my clients, I wouldn't be able to be in this amazing career.
Be inspired, live blessed.
